I am considering changing out the rack and pinion gear box on my 2003 Nissan Maxima GLE. I am wondering why there is such a huge price difference between buying the rack online (as low as $124), vs. buying from my local auto parts store (typically about $500). Are the parts strength or reliabilty that much different between the two sources of parts. Is there any danger in buying the cheaper parts? I don't want to have a dangerous steering system when I'm done, but I also am on a tight budget trying to save some money on this repair. Any advice is appreciated.
